Tanzania and Russia will form a joint commission to accelerate relations in the areas of investment, trade and economic development between the two countries, said Wednesday a Russian government official.

Mikhail Bogdanov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, said the commission would be responsible for ensuring that natural resources benefit the people of both countries.

According to the statement, Bogdanov revealed the formation of the commission during his talks with President John Magufuli. The talks would have taken place after the Russian diplomat addressed President Magufuli with a special message from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Russian diplomat, who visited Tanzania eight years ago, praised the leadership of President Magufuli for launching innovative economic reforms and fighting corruption.

For his part, President Magufuli thanked President Putin and assured him of the continuity of cordial relations between the two countries.

Magufuli urged President Putin and Russian investors to visit Tanzania and learn about the investment opportunities available.
